Developing a line of gorgeous chocolates in smooth and long is the next goal at Criscross, We are having some early success with this endeavor. We will be concentrating on them for the next several years. The effort began when a son of the beatuiful Lexi threw some chocolate puppies. We always knew there was a chance of Lexi carrying chocolate, as her sire , the gorgeous CH Packer's Black Tie m was out of the most beautiful chocolate smooth bitch I had ever seen; CH Packer's Mocha Delight m. I started looking around for a smooth chocolate male to breed her to. I found several males, but the bloodlines were not compatible. I then realized that I had a Champion male here who must carry chocolate. He was in the Piebald program, which I had disbanded. He is a solid pie carrier and was set to be neutered, but before he was, I bred him to Lexi.
In the mean time, and this had nothing to do with producing chocolate, I had a beautiful red champion daughter of Lexi who I bred to a lovely red dog that I had seen at a show in the past. I liked his pedigree, and thought he would compliment her.
Both Lexi, and her daughter were pregnant at the same time. Lexi's pups were born first. I anxiously waited as each pup was born...first pup Black and Tan, phooey..next pup; Black and Tan, phooey again.. third pup ANOTHER BLACK AND TAN!! Where was my chocolate??? Why, she was there..just waiting to make her entrance as the last puppy born..CHOCOLATE!! Yippeeee!! I had it, the chocolate from Lexi!!
I was very pleased that a chocolate from the bloodlines I had used for many years was born..Her black and tan sister grew up to be BISS CH Criscross Ixel Girl ms. I named the chocolate bitch, Criscross Ciacolatta Girl ms.
2 weeks or so later, Emma whelped a litter of 6. I had to do a double take, could it be? Was that a CHOCOLATE snuggled among the 5 reds?? Could it be?? My goodness, it was!! A tiny chocolate male! I called the owner of the stud dog and she couldn't believe it. But here he was..and he grew up to be CH Criscross Meant To Be msc. He was a little blessing. His call name is "Suede" He is now the main stud dog here at Criscross and his puppies are looking wonderful. On a side note, all of "Suede's " littermates were BLACK pigmented reds..no liver noses at all.
And so, the chocolate program was born at Criscross.
I hope you enjoy them. I am!
